Tangee - 1992-2000

Tangee was owned and loved by Ray and Mercedes Georges. Ray wrote this tribute to her in 1999.

Ask anyone competing in agility what their breed's Achilles heel is, and you'll get enough responses to fill the front and back of a t-shirt with the heading, "We didn't qualify today because..." Working with a giant breed has its own challenges including frail equipment, tight courses, slow bone/joint development, and undersized equipment, just to name a few.

Tangee and I have competed in approximately twenty matches across three different states, and during that time, we've only see two other giants compete. Was it worth it? YOU BET! It's like I always say, "If you're running agility with a Leo and you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong."

What were the high and low points of having Tangee as my teammate? That's easy! The low point was watching my friend suffer through a lengthy recovery from Addison's Disease. The high point was receiving a standing ovation from my fellow competitors as Tangee completed a UKC crawl, where the opening is only two inches higher than her back when she is lying down. I was so proud that she was my Leo.

To her credit, Tangee is the first Leo in the world with UKC Agility I and UKC Agility II titles. She also has an LCA-CD, UKC-CD, CGC, and is a therapy dog, but most importantly she is loved dearly by Mercedes and I. After all, she is a wild, wooly workin' Weo!
